About Us

Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust UK, formerly known as Graham Layton Trust, is a humanitarian charity working in Pakistan to alleviate the suffering caused by blindness and visual impairment.

Registered in the UK in 1984 as the Graham Layton Trust, we raise awareness and funds from Zakat and Sadaqah donations to support the work of our sister charity, Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) in Pakistan. Our founders recognised that poor health and disability would hinder a nation’s economic growth and in addressing fundamental health inequalities, they laid the foundations for better health, to help Pakistan’s people thrive.

In 2024, we rebranded to be known as Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust UK, coming into line with LRBT’s other international chapters and to continue in the mission to create a blindness free Pakistan.

Leadership

Our leadership team is responsible for governing and overseeing the operations of the charity and work closely with the management team.

Our history

Close friends Graham Layton and Zaka Rahmatulla established the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust in 1984 to alleviate the suffering caused by sight loss.

Governance

LRBT is a humanitarian organisation without political affiliations, upholding the best standards of impartiality and independence to help all people without discrimination.

Our Board of Trustees provide strategic direction and work closely with the management team to achieve the aims of the charity. In addition, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees in the UK is also a board member of LRBT in Pakistan, providing vital oversight and governance.

We take the trust that you have placed in us very seriously, ensuring all donations including Zakat and Sadaqah are used as per the intentions of our donors and to achieve our mission in the most effective way.

Our audited annual accounts are submitted and published with the Charity Commission for England and Wales and we strive to uphold the highest levels of transparency for all our stakeholders. While much of the finance required to build and maintain the essential infrastructure comes from within Pakistan, the international chapters raise awareness and vital funds to support the eye care programmes at LRBT. From time to time, LRBT in Pakistan ask us to support larger infrastructure projects and each is evaluated on an individual basis.
