Emergency medical relief

With our vast medical infrastructure, we have mobilised and responded quickly to earthquakes, floods and the pandemic, providing emergency medical relief in the immediate aftermath of such disasters. As our medics are based in Pakistan, we are able to re-assign staff to help in emergency situations until global disaster relief organisations reach the disaster zone. Our medical teams reached many remote mountainous communities following the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir, our hospitals and clinics became vaccine centres and food distribution hubs during the 2020-21 pandemic and our medical teams travelled to flood affected areas to provide urgent medical relief and distribute food and water to impacted communities after the 2022 floods.

A lifeline for communities

Your contributions to this fund ensure we can help communities in need. In addition to providing an immediate medical response to disaster, we have also worked with vulnerable and desperately underserved communities to provide eye health care. Having identified areas with very high populations of blind and visually impaired people, we have provided free eye screening and arranged a complete solution for those requiring surgery including transportation to and from hospitals, free surgery, hospital stay and full aftercare. Only in providing immediate help to people suffering with sight loss, can we help to restore livelihoods and have a direct impact on a family’s economic circumstances.

Global effort

The World Health Organisation cites sight restoration amongst the top ten most impactful health interventions in the relief of poverty. Improved eye health can help family earners return to work and provide for their households, helping families move up an income bracket. Loss of productivity in the wider economy is estimated to be £800 million per year. Children with vision impairment tend to have poorer educational outcomes and are more likely to be excluded from schools. Women and girls are more likely to experience health inequality as limited family resources tend to be used to restore sight for male breadwinners. Your funding will help us end health inequalities so that the poorest and most vulnerable are not left behind.
