Vision

LRBT’s vision of restoring dignity and hope

Our Vision

We ensure that all patients, without discrimination, are given access to high quality medical treatment and compassionate care completely free of cost. We want to give individuals the chance to realise their full potential, helping them to stay engaged with their families and communities and become productive members of society. We have transformed the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people, restoring dignity, independence and hope. We guarantee quality care, robust monitoring, evaluation and local understanding, in partnership with our sister charity, the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust.

Founding Principles – The Spirit of LRBT

The organization is guided by four founding principles known as “The Spirit of LRBT.”

1 Free Treatment

All treatment at LRBT is completely free of cost, ensuring that no man, woman or child goes blind because they cannot afford treatment.

2 High Quality Care

Treatment provided is appropriate and state-of-the-art, ensuring that charity does not mean second-rate care.

3 Non-Discrimination

There is no discrimination based on gender, caste, ethnicity, language, religion, sect, or disability.

4 Compassion and Dignity

Patients are treated with compassion and dignity.

These principles reflect LRBT’s commitment to providing high-quality, accessible eye care to those in need across Pakistan.

Scale of the need

The World Health Organisation estimates that 1.1 billion people suffer with visual impairment globally, which currently costs the global economy £411 billion per annum in lost productivity.

Pakistan has a disproportionately large number of blind and visually impaired people compared to other developing countries. The reasons are mainly inability to afford treatment, cost of travel, lost earnings for daily labourers, travel time over large distances to reach the hospitals, poor diet and limited awareness of eye health and hygiene.

1.1%

in Pakistan

Pakistan spends a fraction of its GDP on health care, compared to developed countries, further disenfranchising the most vulnerable; older people, people with disabilities, remote communities and displaced people.
